What does this app do?
Antenna Pointer is an app which is designed to help properly install all antennas or validate all antenna installation. However, because it is essentially map with lines, symbols and markers it can be used in other applications like for example navigation. In most cases technicians must install antennas to desired azimuth. But many times compass is showing wrong value in presence of strong electro-magnetic fields. One of the methods of determining proper azimuth is by drawing line on satellite map and looking on which terrain obstacle (for example: tree, building, landmark) – and that is doing this app. It is drawing lines on map. The app got three main working modes:MODES
Azimuth mode
The azimuth mode put on map for given locations selected azimuths. User can type as many azimuths as needed. Each azimuth contains azimuth value in degrees and distance in kilometers or miles, color and description. Azimuths can be enabled or disabled to make all data more readable. Azimuths can be imported or exported via easy to read JSON format. All data can be found in Files/Antenna Pointer – but remember to backup all data – if you uninstall app – you will lost all of your exported files. Free Version will show you maximum 3 azimuths at once. If you need more – subscribe pro version.Point to point mode
Use this mode if you know point location (instead azimuth to this point). Usage is similar to azimuth mode but user must specify final (target) location. To specify location you can use address, latitude and longitude or you can use database. In database you can store used locations. You can sort database by the distance. So there is a possibility to find for example nearest transmitter or other object. Please use as smallest database as it is possible. Importing large database and searching in it can take a while. If database is too sluggish – please send me e-mail. I tested it with ~40k entries database on slow phone. In free version there is limit in searched entries in database. It will show you first 5 entries from database. Need more? Subscribe pro version.Validation mode
In this mode user can insert on maps sectors (points with selected azimuth), markers, GPX files. It is possible to track and record user position and export saved data to GPX files. In free version there amount of markers and sectors on map is limited to 3 at once, one GPX file and track record time is limited to 3 minuts. Need more? Please subscribe pro version. It will remove all ads and limits.User Location
User can use GPS data to obtain current location. It is also possible to select other location by using the manual mode in which user can either select desired location by long tapping location on map or by typing address/coordinates. In both of modes if you long tap on map - the marker will change selected position.Compass
On map there is compass indicator which is showing direction pointed by front of the phone. Please remember to calibrate compass every time you use it. Compass reading can be wrong if phone is near iron objects or in strong electro-magnetic field. Compass indicator goes green if selected azimuth in near compass readings. If on map there is more than one azimuth – please select desired azimuth by taping azimuth final marker.Import/Export
There is possibility to import/export markers, sectors, tracks. Markers and sectors use JSON format, tracks use KML format. All files you can find in Files/Antenna Pointer (ant then markers, azimuths, KML, KML – export) directory. Used JSON format is quite standard.
